To review the eligibility requirements for your group plan, access the Booklet in WEBS and review the General Provisions section.
Your employees are eligible to join the group benefit plan if they:
- are permanent employees; and
- are Actively Working; and
- are residing in Canada; and
- are covered under the Provincial Health Plan (this applies only to the Extended Health Care and Critical Illness portions of the benefits); and
- have completed the required Waiting Period as stated in your Booklet(s)
*Saskatchewan labour laws allow employee benefit eligibility for permanent part-time staff, upon satisfying 15 hours of work per week for a minimum of 26 consecutive weeks (390 hours minimum).
When Employee Coverage Begins & Ends
Coverage begins the date the employee satisfies the Waiting Period. If the employee is not Actively Working on the date coverage would normally begin, coverage will not commence until he/she returns to active work.
Employee coverage ends on the earliest of the following:
- the date the employee ceases to be Actively Working;
- the date the employee ceases to be a member of any eligible class;
- the date premium paid to the Insurer for the employee’s coverage ceases; the date the group contract ends;
- the date the employee reaches the benefit termination age, as indicated in the Schedule of Benefits in the Booklet;
- the date the employee retires; or
- the date the employee passes away. Survivor Benefits may be available to the member’s dependents as indicated in the Booklet.
