Notify your Billing Administrator immediately when a member is on strike, lock-out, or temporary lay-off.
A temporary lay-off is a period of time during which a member is temporarily laid-off, with an expectation of (or set date for) returning to work. Strikes or lock-outs can occur in unionized environments.
GroupSource recommends the employer consider establishing certain guidelines for strikes, lock-outs, or temporary lay-offs. For example:
- Employers must determine whether or not to allow members to continue benefit coverage during a strike, lock-out, or temporary lay-off and what length of time certain benefits will be continued.
- This decision should be made corporately and must be applied equally to all members, please contact your Client Service Coordinator for advice regarding the continuation of benefits for employees on strikes, lock-outs, or temporary lay-offs.
The guidelines for extending or denying benefits during a strike, lock-out or temporary lay-off are identical to Personal Leave of Absence.
